radio-sport.net Spotlight - W2GD

Just in time for the CQ WW CW contest, our spotlight this week is on a regular contender for the SOAB High Power title, John Crovelli W2GD.

While Crovelli didn't make his usual trip to P40W in Aruba for the CQ WW SSB test, he will be there for CW.

"CQWW CW has the well deserved reputation of being "THE BIG ONE," Crovelli told radio-sport.net this month, "and this running of the race will be no exception."

As you will read in one of our CQ WW CW preview stories, Crovelli is not overly optimistic about a big change in band conditions for this year's big test.

"So whats going to happen this year? The sun continues to be uncooperative, occasionally teasing us with a new spot or two, but propagation is totally inconsistent day to day," Crovelli said.

In 2007, Crovelli finished second in the world in CQ WW CW. This year, you will find P40W on the air again, but maybe not in SOAB High Power.

Help us tell even more stories about amateur radio contesting by sending in pictures and descriptions of your contest efforts to radio-sport.net
